Course Description
This qualification reflects the role of educators in early childhood education and care who work in regulated children’s education and care services in Australia. Educators support children’s wellbeing and development within an approved learning framework, using discretion and judgment in line with established policies and procedures. They may work independently or under guidance, though supervision may not always be on-site.
Career opportunities include roles in:
- Long day care centres
- Family day care
- Pre-schools
- Kindergartens
Work Placement Requirement
- Minimum 160 hours in a regulated children’s education and care service (as per unit assessment requirements).
Regulatory Information
- No occupational licensing, certification, or specific legislative requirements apply at the time of publication.
- Certificate III is a pre-requisite for the Diploma of Early Childhood Education & Care.
Entry Requirements
Applicants must meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Successful completion of Year 11 (Australia) or an equivalent qualification from their home country.
- Holders of an AQF qualification Level II and above.
- Industry experience without formal qualification may also be considered.
Additional requirements:
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Must have or be willing to apply for a Working with Children’s Check.
- Must meet Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) requirements.
